Meet Kowie, an Afrikaans language translator
Afrikaans is a language derived from Middle Dutch and is mainly spoken in South Africa and Namibia, with smaller numbers of speakers in Botswana, Angola, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, and Zambia. With a history in teaching English as a foreign language in Britain and the Netherlands, Kowie, one of our Afrikaans translators now specialises in translating marketing and tourism articles as well as websites. He spent five years working as a journalist at home in Cape Town, however Kowie chose London as the place to work on his current passion, Afrikaans freelance translation work, having been awarded the Diploma in Translation. Kowie enjoys theatre and the arts, but his main hobby is poetry and writing short stories based on his vast travelling experience.
Afrikaans is a language belonging to the Indo-European family of languages
Actually, its classification is still disputed as some consider it a dialect of Dutch while others insist it is an independent language. In the Republic of South Africa, where it is the official language, nearly eight million people call Afrikaans their native tongue. About 50% of the native speakers are Caucasian. The language is a conglomeration of Dutch, which is the language it stems from, Bantu and English. The written form of Afrikaans dates back to 1861, but the grammar has seen significant simplification since then. Are you in need of Afrikaans translation services? If you are planning on conducting business in South Africa, you will undoubtedly need to see a service that can help make your communication with the people there possible.
