Flemish is a term that can refer to the speech of the Flemings, inhabitants of Flanders. Dutch is the official name of the standard language, hence in English referred to as 'standard' Dutch. Begian Dutch – also known as Flemish
In Belgium, Dutch is often referred to as Flemish in addition to Belgian Dutch. Approximately 24 million people speak Dutch, a Netherlandic-German language that uses the Roman alphabet. This form of Dutch is spoken in northern Belgian. The written language is quite different from the spoken form of Belgian Dutch. In both vocabulary and grammar, written Dutch is more formal than the spoken version. Also, written Dutch is fairly uniform while the spoken language is much more subject to divergences in dialects.
