Books and genres we translate

We translate fiction and non-fiction across genres: novels and short stories, children's and young-adult books, poetry and literary essays, biography and memoir, academic and reference titles, and illustrated and educational books. We keep the author's voice, register and dialect intact, adapt idiom and cultural references so they land for the new reader, and can return the translation in the same formatting and layout as your original so it is ready for typesetting. If your book needs a proofread of an existing translation rather than a new one, see our proofreading services.

Two-step literary translation and independent review under ISO 17100

Ready for publication

We can return your translated book in the same layout and formatting as the original, so it moves straight to typesetting rather than being rekeyed, and we keep chapter structure, footnotes and front matter intact. For a series or an ongoing author, we build and maintain a glossary and style sheet so character names, invented terms and tone stay consistent from one book to the next. Tell us the genre, the word count and your publication date, and we will plan the project around it.

50+ Specialized Fields where subject mastery meets linguistic precision

A quality process built for accuracy

Our Premium book translation goes through two stages: translation by a literary linguist, then an independent review against the source by a second linguist, the two-step process ISO 17100 defines and which we were the first UK company to achieve. Specialist translation is produced by a literary linguist with internal quality checks. For a book, that Premium second read is where consistency of voice, character names and register across a long text is checked, not just the accuracy of individual sentences. You can read more about how our two-step translation process works on our main translation services page.

Price and turnaround

Book translation is priced per 1,000 words plus VAT, not per page, in three tiers: AI-Assisted from £80, Specialist from £110 and Premium from £150, with a £25 minimum charge per language. For a full-length book most authors and publishers choose Specialist or Premium, and Premium adds an independent second-linguist review. Turnaround follows a realistic literary pace rather than a machine promise, and we agree a schedule against your publication date. Upload your manuscript for a fixed quote, or see our translation prices for the full breakdown by tier.

Languages we cover

We translate books to and from more than 200 languages and variants, from the major world languages through to less commonly requested combinations. Tell us the source and target languages, the genre and the word count, and we will confirm the right translator, a schedule and a fixed quote before you commit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Book translation at Absolute Translations is priced per 1,000 words plus VAT, not per page, in three tiers: AI-Assisted from £80, Specialist from £110 and Premium from £150, with a £25 minimum charge per language. For a full-length book most authors and publishers choose Specialist or Premium, where a native literary translator is followed by an independent review. Turnaround follows a realistic literary pace rather than a machine promise: a specialist translator works at a sustainable daily rate, and a full novel is planned as a scheduled project, not an overnight job. We agree a delivery schedule against your publication date, with the independent review stage built in for Specialist and Premium orders. Tell us the word count and the date you are working to when you upload the manuscript, and we will confirm a schedule before you commit.

Yes. Every book is handled by a native-speaker literary translator who preserves voice, tone, register and dialect, and adapts idiom and cultural references so the book reads as though written in the target language rather than translated word for word. The independent second read on Specialist and Premium orders checks that voice and register stay consistent across the whole text. Tell us about your book and its intended readers and we will match it to the right translator.

We can return your translated book in the same layout and formatting as the original, keeping chapter structure, footnotes and front matter intact, so it moves straight to typesetting rather than being rekeyed. For a series or an ongoing author we build and maintain a glossary and style sheet, so character names, invented terms and tone stay identical from one book to the next. Tell us if your title is part of a series and we will set this up from the start.

We translate to and from more than 200 languages and variants, across fiction and non-fiction: novels and short stories, children's and young-adult books, poetry, biography and memoir, and academic and reference titles. Each book is matched to a translator who works in that genre, because literary fiction, children's writing and academic non-fiction each need a different ear. Tell us the languages, the genre and the word count and we will confirm the right translator and a fixed quote.
