What's included in a certified translation

Every certified translation is produced to be accepted by UK authorities. Here is exactly what you receive:

An accurate translation of your document

A signed and dated certification statement on our letterhead, with our official company stamp

A PDF copy by email and a certified hard copy by post

Handled securely and in line with GDPR — from the first UK company to achieve ISO 17100.

Which certification service do you need?

Tell us where the document will be used and we will confirm the correct option.

Certified / Statement of Truth

Our standard certified translation on company letterhead with a signed certification statement and stamp. Accepted by most UK authorities — Home Office, UKVI, courts and universities. Includes a signed Statement of Truth where a court requires one. From £29.

Affidavit

A sworn version, where the translator swears the accuracy of the translation before a solicitor or commissioner of oaths. Asked for by some courts and legal proceedings.

Notarised

When the receiving body needs a Notary Public to confirm the translation. Notary in-house, so usually same-day.

Apostille / Legalisation

For documents being used abroad. An apostille covers countries in the Hague Convention; full embassy legalisation covers those that are not. From £85.

Money-back guarantee on certified translations accepted by UK authorities and international organisations.

Accepted by UK authorities, guaranteed

Our certified translations are produced to be accepted by UK authorities and by many overseas bodies. Clients rely on us for documents going to the Home Office and UKVI, HM Courts and Tribunals, UK universities and UK ENIC/ECCTIS for qualification recognition, the General Medical Council, the DVLA, the Passport Office and foreign consulates in London. Tell us which body will receive the document and we recommend and set the right level of certification. We then back that recommendation with a money-back guarantee: if you take the option we recommend and the receiving authority does not accept it, or later changes what it requires, we will either put it right at no cost or refund you in full. All we ask is the authority's decision in writing, so we are acting on their word, with no further questions.

What a certified translation costs

Certified translation starts from £29 per document, including the translation, the certification and VAT; additional pages are from £26 for most languages. Because certificates are short, we price per document or per page rather than per word. An apostille is from £85, which covers the FCDO legalisation fee and secure courier. Your exact price depends on the language pair, the number of pages, the level of certification and how quickly you need it. Upload your document for a fixed quote, or see our certified translation prices for a full breakdown.

How fast can you get it?

Most certified documents are ready within one to two working days, with same-day certification available on request for short documents such as birth and marriage certificates. We offer both a standard and an express service; the turnaround reflects the length of the document, the language pair and the level of certification. When you upload your document, tell us your deadline and we will confirm a delivery date before you order.

Why Absolute Translations

We have worked for organisations including the UK government and the NHS, and we are rated Excellent on Trustpilot, with 2,500+ reviews. We are also carbon negative, a step beyond carbon neutral.

Frequently Asked Questions

Certified translation at Absolute Translations starts from £29 per document, including the translation, the certification and VAT; additional pages are from £26 for most languages. Because certificates and official records are short, we price per document or per page rather than per word. Your final figure depends on the language pair, the number of pages, whether you also need notarisation or an apostille, and how quickly you need it. Upload the document for a fixed quote, or first see how our certified pricing works.

Most certified documents are ready within one to two working days, and short documents such as a birth or marriage certificate can often be certified the same day on request. Turnaround depends on the length, the language pair and the level of certification: a straightforward single certificate is quick, while a multi-page court bundle, or a document that also needs notarisation or an apostille, takes a little longer. Tell us your deadline when you upload the document and we will confirm a delivery date before you order.

Yes. Our certified translations are produced to be accepted by UK authorities including the Home Office and UKVI, HM Courts and Tribunals, UK universities and UK ENIC (formerly NARIC), the General Medical Council, the DVLA and the Passport Office. Each carries our signed certification statement and official company stamp. We back it with a money-back guarantee: take the certification level we recommend and, if the receiving authority does not accept it in writing, or changes what it requires, we will put it right at no cost or refund you in full. Tell us the receiving body and we set the certification to the level it expects.

The right level depends on who will receive the document, and this is the question we are asked most. A certified translation, carrying our signed statement, is accepted by most UK bodies. A sworn translation is requested by some overseas courts and authorities. A notarised translation adds a Notary Public's certificate; we have a notary in-house, so this is usually same-day. An apostille, from £85, legalises a document for use in another Hague Convention country. Tell us the destination and we will confirm the exact level you need.

You receive a copy of your certified translation by email, and we also send a posted certified copy, because not all authorities accept a digital email certification. The posted translation is printed with its certification statement and sent in a securely-fastened folder. If you are applying online to a body that accepts digital certification, the email copy may be all you need, and we can advise on that when you order. We confirm the delivery method and any courier or overseas postage before you place your order.
