Certified marriage certificate translation

A certified marriage certificate translation is an official translation of your marriage certificate, accompanied by a signed statement confirming it is a true and accurate rendering of the original. If you call it a wedding certificate, it is the same document and we translate it either way. At Absolute Translations we translate and certify marriage certificates for use with UK and overseas authorities, including the Home Office and UKVI, HM Passport Office, the General Register Office and UK universities. Prices start from £29 for a standard document or first page, including the translation, the certification and VAT, and because a marriage certificate is usually short, many can be certified the same day.

What’s included in your certified marriage certificate translation

Every certified marriage certificate translation includes the translation itself and a signed, dated statement confirming it is a true and accurate translation, carrying our name and contact details, together with our official company stamp on our letterhead. That signed statement, not the stamp alone, is what UK authorities look for. We are an established UK translation company, the first in the UK to achieve ISO 17100, with over twenty years of experience translating official records for individuals and families. You receive a copy by email, and we can also send a posted certified copy where the receiving authority does not accept a digital certification. Every document is handled securely and in line with GDPR.

Money-back guarantee on marriage certificate translation services accepted by UK authorities and international organisations.

Accepted by UK authorities and abroad, guaranteed

Our certified marriage certificate translations are produced to be accepted by UK authorities and by many overseas bodies. Couples rely on us for documents going to the Home Office and UKVI for a spouse or partner visa and for settlement, HM Passport Office for a passport in a married name, the DVLA and banks for a change of name, and universities and employers that ask for proof of a legal name change. Tell us which body will receive the translation and we recommend and set the right level of certification. We then back that recommendation with a money-back guarantee: if you take the option we recommend and the receiving authority does not accept it, or later changes what it requires, we will either put it right at no cost or refund you in full, provided we have the authority’s decision in writing.

Linking your maiden and married name across the application

A marriage certificate is the bridge document that connects the name you were born with to your married name, so the single most important job is making sure the translation reconciles with your other documents. We reproduce both spouses’ names exactly as they appear, along with the date and place of marriage, the registrar or officiant and any reference numbers, and where it helps we add a short translator’s note that links the maiden name to the married one. This matters because a spouse visa, a passport application or a name change at a bank often places the marriage certificate next to a birth certificate or passport in a different name, and a clear, consistent set of translations prevents the query or rejection that a mismatch would otherwise cause.

Marriage certificates used abroad

If your marriage needs to be recognised or registered in another country, or you are applying for a spousal visa abroad, the receiving authority often asks for the certified translation to be legalised as well as certified. Where a document is going to a country in the Hague Convention we can arrange an apostille, from £85, which covers the FCDO legalisation fee and secure courier; for other countries we can arrange consular legalisation through the relevant embassy. Tell us the destination country and we will confirm which level of legalisation that country requires before we begin.

What a certified marriage certificate translation costs

Certified marriage certificate translation starts from £29 for a standard document or first page, including the translation, the certification and VAT; additional pages, where a document runs to more than one, are from £26 for most languages. If notarisation is required, our in-house notary usually completes this the same day; an apostille, from £85, legalises the document for use in another Hague Convention country. Your exact price depends on the language pair, the number of pages and the level of certification. Upload your marriage certificate for a fixed quote, or see our certified translation prices for a full breakdown.

How fast can you get it?

Most certified marriage certificate translations are ready within one to two working days, and because the certificate itself is usually short, same-day certification is available on request more often than for longer, multi-page documents. We offer both a standard and an express service; the turnaround reflects the length of the document, the language pair and the level of certification. When you upload your certificate, tell us your deadline and we will confirm a delivery date before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Certified marriage certificate translation at Absolute Translations starts from £29 for a standard document or first page, including the translation, the certification and VAT; additional pages, where needed, are from £26 for most languages. Because marriage certificates are usually short, most orders sit at the base price. Your final figure depends on the language pair, the number of pages, and whether you also need notarisation or an apostille. Upload the document for a fixed quote, or first see how our certified pricing works.

Most certified marriage certificate translations are ready within one to two working days, and a single short certificate can often be certified the same day on request. Turnaround depends on the language pair, the level of certification and whether any related documents are being translated alongside it. Tell us your deadline when you upload the document and we will confirm a delivery date before you order, so a visa or passport cut-off is never a guess.

Yes. Our certified marriage certificate translations are produced to be accepted by UK authorities including the Home Office and UKVI, HM Passport Office and the General Register Office, each carrying our signed certification statement and official company stamp. We back it with a money-back guarantee: take the certification level we recommend and, if the receiving authority does not accept it in writing, or changes what it requires, we will put it right at no cost or refund you in full. Tell us the receiving body and we set the certification to the level it expects.

It depends on the destination. Many overseas authorities ask for the certified translation to be legalised as well as certified, with an apostille for Hague Convention countries or consular legalisation for others. We can translate and certify the marriage certificate and arrange the apostille, from £85, where it is required. Tell us the country the documents are going to when you upload them and we will confirm exactly what that authority needs before we start.

It depends on the receiving authority. Many countries issue both a short-form extract and a full or long-form certificate that includes parents' details, and some UK and overseas bodies, particularly for passport, visa and citizenship applications, specifically require the full form showing parentage. Tell us which type you have when you upload it, and which authority the translation is for, and we will confirm whether it is the right version before we translate and certify it.

Yes. In the UK the certificate issued when you marry is the marriage certificate, and it is often called a wedding certificate. We translate and certify it whichever term you use, for visas, a change of name and use abroad.
