Certified Birth certificate translation with signed statement and official company stamp

What's included in your certified Amharic translation

Every certified Amharic translation includes the translation itself and a signed, dated statement on our letterhead confirming it is a true and accurate translation, with our name and contact details, and our official company stamp. That signed statement, not the stamp alone, is what UK authorities look for in a certified translation. We are an established UK translation company, the first in the UK to achieve ISO 17100, with over twenty years of experience translating official Amharic documents. You receive a copy by email, and we can also send a posted certified copy where the receiving authority does not accept a digital certification. Every document is handled securely and in line with GDPR.

Money-back guarantee on amharic certified translation services accepted by UK authorities and international organisations.

Accepted by UK authorities, guaranteed

Our certified Amharic translations are produced to be accepted by UK authorities, including the Home Office and UKVI for immigration and visa applications, HM Courts, UK universities and UK ENIC for recognising overseas qualifications, the DVLA and the Passport Office. Tell us which body will receive the translation and we recommend and set the right level of certification. We then back that recommendation with a money-back guarantee: if you take the option we recommend and the receiving authority does not accept it, or later changes what it requires, we will either put it right at no cost or refund you in full, provided we have the authority's decision in writing.

The Fidel script and the Ethiopian calendar

Amharic is written in the Fidel (Ge'ez) syllabic script, and Ethiopian civil documents also use the Ethiopian calendar, which runs roughly seven to eight years behind the Gregorian one and has thirteen months. Getting a certified translation right means transliterating names from Fidel to match your passport spelling and rendering the Ethiopian date correctly, with the Gregorian equivalent noted, so a UK authority reading the translation is not confused by a date of birth that appears years out.

Ethiopian civil and identity documents

We certify Ethiopian birth and marriage certificates, kebele identity documents and residence records, and academic certificates. Ethiopian documents are frequently submitted for UK asylum, family reunion and immigration applications, and we handle handwritten and older records as well as the current printed formats.

What a certified Amharic translation costs

Certified Amharic translation starts from £29 for a standard document or first page, including the translation, the certification and VAT, and £26 for each additional page. Because certificates are short, we price per document or per page, not per word. If notarisation is required, our in-house notary usually completes this the same day; an apostille, from £85, authenticates a UK original for use abroad and does not replace the translation. Your exact price depends on the number of pages and the level of certification. Upload your Amharic document for a fixed quote, or see our certified translation prices for a full breakdown.

How fast can you get it?

Most certified Amharic translations are ready within one to two working days, with same-day certification available on request for short documents such as an Amharic birth or marriage certificate. We offer both a standard and an express service; the turnaround reflects the length of the document, whether it also needs notarisation or an apostille, and how quickly you need it. When you upload your document, tell us your deadline and we will confirm a delivery date before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Certified Amharic translation at Absolute Translations starts from £29 for a standard document or first page, including the translation, the certification and VAT, and £26 for each additional page. Because Amharic certificates and records are usually short, most orders sit at the base price. Your final figure depends on the number of pages and whether you also need notarisation or an apostille. Upload your document for a fixed quote, or first see how our certified pricing works.

Most certified Amharic translations are ready within one to two working days, and a short document such as an Amharic birth or marriage certificate can often be certified the same day on request. Turnaround depends on the length of the document, the certification level, and whether an apostille or notarisation is also needed, which adds a step. Tell us your deadline when you upload the document and we will confirm a delivery date before you order.

Yes. Our certified Amharic translations are produced to be accepted by UK authorities including the Home Office and UKVI, HM Courts, UK universities and UK ENIC, the DVLA and the Passport Office. Each carries our signed certification statement and official company stamp. We back it with a money-back guarantee: take the certification level we recommend and, if the receiving authority does not accept it in writing, we will put it right at no cost or refund you in full. Tell us the receiving body and we set the certification to the level it expects.

Ethiopian documents use the Ethiopian calendar, which runs roughly seven to eight years behind the Gregorian calendar and has thirteen months, so a date of birth can look years out to a UK official who is not expecting it. We render the original Ethiopian date faithfully and note the Gregorian equivalent, so the receiving authority can read both without confusion. If your application relies on matching a date to your passport or another document, tell us and we will make sure the translation makes the relationship clear.

Yes. Amharic is written in the Fidel (Ge'ez) script, so every name has to be transliterated into the Roman alphabet, and there is often more than one possible spelling. We reproduce the spelling that matches your passport or the other documents you are submitting, because a mismatch between the translation and your passport is one of the most common reasons an immigration application is queried. Tell us the exact spelling used on your passport when you upload the document and we will follow it.
