Swiss French translation services for UK businesses

Absolute Translations provides professional Swiss French translation services for UK and international businesses working with Switzerland, translating both into and out of the French used in Romandy (Geneva, Lausanne and the wider French-speaking cantons). Every project is handled by a native-speaker linguist who writes for a Swiss audience, matched to the subject of your document as well as the language. We are the first UK translation company to achieve ISO 17100 accreditation, and every Specialist and Premium translation is independently reviewed by a second linguist before delivery. Prices start from £80 per 1,000 words plus VAT, and turnaround is set around a specialist's real working pace of about 3,000 to 3,500 words a day.

What we translate into and from Swiss French

We translate the Swiss French documents UK businesses use most when working with Switzerland: financial and banking documents, contracts and terms and conditions, pharmaceutical and technical documentation, marketing and website content, and company presentations. Switzerland has four national languages, so we also coordinate German and Italian versions when a project needs them. Our specialists cover legal, financial, technical, medical, marketing and public-sector work, matched to your subject. For an official document that must be accepted by a Swiss authority, see our certified Swiss French translation (a separate, certified service).

Specialist Swiss French linguists, matched to your subject

Every Swiss French translator we use is a native speaker with genuine experience in your subject area, not simply a fluent bilingual generalist. A contract goes to a linguist who works in legal translation day to day; product specifications go to someone with a technical background; marketing copy goes to a linguist who can adapt tone as well as meaning. We draw on a specialist Swiss French pool across legal, financial, technical, medical, marketing and public-sector translation, matched to your document before work begins.

Our two-step quality process

Every Specialist and Premium Swiss French translation goes through two stages: translation by a native linguist, then an independent review of the finished translation against the source text by a second linguist, before it reaches you. This is what ISO 17100, the international standard for translation services, requires, and we were the first UK translation company to achieve that accreditation. For ongoing work we maintain a Swiss French glossary and translation memory for your account. You can read the full detail of our two-step process on our main translation services page.

Swiss French pricing, per 1,000 words plus VAT

Swiss French translation is priced per 1,000 words, not per page, in three tiers depending on how the document will be used: AI-Assisted from £80, Specialist from £110 and Premium from £150 per 1,000 words, all plus VAT, with a £25 minimum charge per language. We match your project to a linguist who writes in Swiss French (Romandy) conventions, so the text reads naturally to a Swiss audience. Turnaround follows a specialist's real pace of about 3,000 to 3,500 words a day, plus roughly 30% more time where the independent review stage applies.

The right Swiss French for your market

Swiss French, used across Romandy, carries its own vocabulary, number words (septante, nonante and, in some cantons, huitante) and Helvetisms. We assign a linguist who writes in Swiss French and confirm the intended canton and audience before we start, so the text reads as local to Swiss readers.

Certified Swiss French for official use

Documents that must be officially accepted by a Swiss authority are typically certified or notarised, and some cantons (such as Geneva) recognise sworn translators; an apostille may also be required depending on the destination country and the receiving authority, as Switzerland is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. That is a separate, certified service; see our certified Swiss French translation page and tell us the receiving body when you request a quote.

Security and confidentiality

Swiss French client documents are handled within our ISO 27001-certified information security systems, the international standard for information security management, and under GDPR-compliant processes, with confidentiality agreements in place for every linguist working on your project. We are used by organisations including the UK government and the NHS for exactly this reason: sensitive documents need a translation partner that treats confidentiality as a default, not an add-on.

Frequently Asked Questions

Swiss French translation starts from £80 per 1,000 words plus VAT for AI-Assisted, £110 for Specialist and £150 for Premium, with a £25 minimum charge per language. It is priced per 1,000 words, not per page, and the right tier depends on how the document will be used, from an internal reference to published, client-facing text. We match your project to a linguist who writes in Swiss French. Upload your document for a fixed quote, or see how our translation pricing works for the full breakdown.

Turnaround depends on the length of the document and the tier you choose, but as a guide a specialist translator works at around 3,000 to 3,500 words a day, plus roughly 30% more time for the independent review stage built into every Specialist and Premium order. A short business document is often ready within one to two working days; longer finance or pharma projects take longer. Tell us your deadline when you upload the document and we will confirm a delivery date before you order.

Every Swiss French project is matched to a native linguist with genuine experience in your subject area, so legal, financial, medical and technical content each go to a translator who works in that field day to day. This matters for Switzerland's banking, finance and pharmaceutical sectors. Specialist and Premium orders then go through a second, independent linguist who reviews the translation against the source text before delivery, the two-step process required under ISO 17100. We were the first UK translation company to achieve that accreditation.

Yes. Swiss French (Romandy) shares the same grammar but differs in vocabulary and numbers, for example septante for seventy, nonante for ninety and, in cantons such as Vaud and Valais, huitante for eighty, along with everyday Helvetisms. Getting these right matters for finance, legal and marketing documents aimed at Swiss readers. We assign a linguist who writes in Swiss French and confirm the intended canton and readership with you before we start.

For documents that must be accepted by a Swiss authority, a certified or notarised translation is usually required, and some cantons such as Geneva recognise sworn translators; an apostille may also be required depending on the destination country and the receiving authority, as Switzerland is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. This is a separate, certified service from standard business translation. Our certified Swiss French translation covers this route; tell us the receiving body and canton when you request a quote and we will confirm exactly what is needed before you order.
